The Mask

The many masks we wear: domestic violence awareness - Gateway (unothegateway.com)

One of the masks I wore was that I was in a great, no fantastic, relationship. You see as much as the abuser wears a mask of all hail good fellow or all hail good lady, the abused/victim wears a mask that is just as deceiving. Why? Because sometimes it is easier to wear a mask that everyone wants to believe anyway, than to be unmasked, vulnerable and believed to be a liar. The unfortunate truth about domestic violence is the fact that the abuser is more likely to be believed than the abused. Especially if there is no physical abuse. After all, who would not like a mate that takes over all of the finances in the relationship? Who would not like a mate that makes sure their mate does not have to work? Who would not like a mate that makes sure bad influences do not sway their mates opinions? Who would not like a mate that is worried or concerned over each and every moment that their mate is away?

Domestic/Intimate partner violence is all about power and control. Nothing more...nothing less. Abuse takes on many faucets and is masked in multiple ways. You can be a person that helps eradicate domestic violence. You can make a difference.
